Relocation / Tourism: Overview Forrest City
Forrest City, located in St. Francis County, gives you the better of two worlds. On the one hand, there is a friendly, small-town atmosphere and a low cost of living you will find easy to take. On the other hand, the territory comes with easy access to nearby Memphis (45 miles) and Little Rock (90 miles) for their cosmopolitan offerings. Excellent schools and health care are taken for granted in Forrest City. Our people would not have it any other way. Recreational opportunities are superb. Our area has a couple of the hottest fishing lakes in Arkansas. Plus, Village Creek State Park has comfortable cabins, adventuresome campsites and beautiful trails. It is Arkansas' largest state park. Our town is located on a fascinating geological formation known as Crowley's Ridge.
There are quaint shops and stores that sell antiques as well as gift items. Forrest City also has golf courses, a sports complex, and special events for extracurricular activities. Visitors to the area have excellent lodging, restaurants and moderate prices. The history of St. Francis County is quite interesting. St. Francis County was originally recognized by the Arkansas Territorial Legislature on October 13, 1827, consisting of territory taken from Phillips County. A major route for pioneer traffic, the St. Francis River, provided the county name. St. Francis County contains ten municipalities: Colt, Caldwell, Madison, Widener, Palestine, Wheatley, Goodwin, Heth, Hughes, and Forrest City, the county seat. Forrest City was incorporated in 1871. home |
